Vehicles registered on or after this date attract a first tax payment based on the CO2 emissions produced by the vehicle. This also applies to other vehicles, for example some motorhomes.

Vehicles registered before 1 March 2001 are taxed based on the engine size. The tax rate is different for vehicles with an engine size above or below 1549cc.

Motorhome tax rates are calculated based on the gross weight and engine size of the vehicle.
Motorhomes which were registered after April 2017 have a different rate of tax if they are in the M1SP category or have CO2 emissions which are included on the type approval certificate.
