Frequently Asked Questions

How are the free car valuation estimates calculated?

To calculate the estimated current value of a vehicle, we use information from a number of sources including the DVLA, MOT History and other publicly available data.

Using this information, we estimate the mileage of the vehicle and provide a summary of its current condition.

How do I get a free car valuation?

Enter the vehicle registration to get an up to date valuation showing what its currently worth.

After entering the vehicle registration we will generate a valuation within a minute or two and provide a detailed report showing key valuation information.

How accurate is a free car valuation?

To provide a free instant valuation, we have to make some basic assumptions to provide the valuation as quickly as possible.

The MOT history data is used as a guide to indicate how well the vehicle has been maintained and highlight any ongoing or potential serious issues that could affect the value of the vehicle.

Why is the valuation of my vehicle inaccurate?

We use a range of data to estimate the value of the vehicle, including similar vehicles that are currently listed for sale.

There are some things we can’t take into account with an instant valuation, such as the service history or mechanical condition of the vehicle. Vehicles that are rare, modified or specialised may also result in a less accurate valuation.

Why is the valuation for my vehicle not available?

There are a number of reasons why we may only be able to provide a partial valuation, or no valuation at all.

Where the vehicle registration details are not found, or there is limited data available from the DVLA, we may not be able to provide a full valuation. Unique vehicles may also have missing information if we can’t find enough data on similar vehicles that are currently listed for sale.

How do I find the price of my vehicle when it was new?

Enter your vehicle registration to find the price of the vehicle when it was new.

Our free report shows the price of the vehicle model when new, but it does not include the full price paid at the time of registration for optional extras or negotiated discounts.

Included Data

A free car valuation includes a number of key data points that are useful when selling or buying a vehicle:

  • Price of the vehicle when new.
  • Estimated value of the vehicle when traded in or part exchanged.
  • Estimated value of the vehicle when buying or selling privately.
  • Comparable vehicles that are currently listed for sale from a range of dealers.
  • MOT history summary which includes highlights and key points.
  • An overall condition summary of the vehicle based on the data we hold.

Selling Your Vehicle

You can use this service to get an instant estimate if you are looking to sell your vehicle.

This can be useful when trying to decide how much to list your vehicle for, or in order to highlight key points that might affect the resale value.

Buying a Vehicle

You can use the free car valuation service when buying a vehicle to see how much similar vehicles are selling for.

Our free report also summarises key points from the MOT history and mileage records that can help to make a decision and highlight potential problems such as unresolved mechanical issues, mileage discrepancies or lack of maintenance by previous owners.

We’d also recommend buying a car history check before purchasing a used vehicle.
