It can sometimes take up to 5 days for the tax expiry date to be updated after you tax a vehicle.

It is illegal to drive an untaxed vehicle unless you are driving to a pre-booked MOT test. You must tax your vehicle using the DVLA online service, even if it is free to tax.
You can report an untaxed vehicle to the DVLA. You should check if the vehicle is taxed using the free online car tax check service first. You will need the registration number, make, model, colour and location of a vehicle to report it to the DVLA.
Vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1979 are exempt from vehicle tax. Additional exemptions apply to some electric and disabled passenger vehicles. A full list of vehicles exempt from vehicle tax is available from the DVLA.

Tax Your VehicleTo keep your vehicle on the road in the UK, it needs to be be taxed.
You could be fined up to £1,000 if you're caught driving an untaxed vehicle.
If your vehicle is off the road, you will need to register a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) with the DVLA to avoid paying vehicle tax.
After you make a SORN, you won't need to pay road tax for the duration of the notification. You won't be able to use your vehicle on the road during this time.
