Complete a free reg check for instant access to over 50 data points.
Check if the vehicle is legally allowed on the road, spot potential mechanical defects using the MOT history, and check performance specs.
Our free reg check service provides a wide range of data, useful for checking your own vehicle, or one you might be looking to purchase.
We use a range of data sources to provide the vehicle reports on our website:
Should you have a question about any of the data displayed on our free report, you can contact the dvla for assistance. Please contact us directly for any queries relating to paid checks.
Our free service allows you to check data points from public data sources to give an overview of the vehicle.
This is a great starting point, but when looking to buy a used vehicle you should always consider upgrading to a paid report. Prices start at £2.99 for a partial check or £9.99 for a full check.
You can also get discounted prices by purchasing multiple checks together.
On the newer format of number plates, the first 2 characters indicate where it was first registered. For example, a reg that starts with the letter A would have been first registered in Anglia, or one starting with S would be registered in Scotland.
You can view the full list of car reg area codes or complete a free check to find out this information on our website.

Paid Checks
Paid reg checks offer a much more comprehensive overview of a vehicle, with data included from a range of sources that can help to protect you when buying a used car:
We offer two types of paid checks, a partial or a full check. A partial check provides a large amount of data at a low cost, allowing you to quickly highlight potential serious issues, but it’s always worth completing a full checking when buying a used vehicle.
A full check provides a comprehensive report along with a data guarantee for the most protection. You can also upgrade any partial check to a full check at a reduced price within 24 hours.
There are a few reasons why your reg can’t be found:
The reg was entered incorrectly. Pay close attention to ensure the registration was entered exactly as it appears, paying particular attention to characters which appear similar, like the letter O and number 0. For example, entering AOO5 ABC (with 2 letter Os) would be incorrect, while entering AO05 ABC (with a letter O followed by a number 0) would be in the correct format.
The vehicle has only just been registered or it’s had a plate change. In these cases, unfortunately it’s just a case of waiting for the DVLA records to update. There are a number of data sources that all need to be updated whenever there is a change to the number plate, so it could take a couple of weeks.
There is a mistake in the DVLA records. While the least common cause, if you are certain the number plate was entered correctly but it’s still not showing, you may need to contact the DVLA for assistance. They will be able to issue any corrections that will also take effect across our website and all similar services.
We often get messages asking How do I find the owner of a vehicle using the reg? Despite us getting this request regularly, we’re actually unable to provide any personal details about the name or address of the registered keeper of a vehicle.
This is the same for all similar companies and prevents unauthorised access to personal data about the owner of a vehicle.
Providing you have a valid reason, you can request the keepers details from the DVLA directly. This might be because the vehicle has been involved in an accident, or parked on your land without permission.
Only the DVLA can supply this information and we will be unable to help with any queries related to this.
